Psychological Therapy
What is it? We will start with a first appointment to explore the reasons you and your child would like support at the moment. This will involve gathering some background information, understanding the current difficulties and ways of coping, and thinking about goals for therapy.
Based on the outcome of the discussion, we will advise on the focus of our therapeutic work together. We may work with other professionals, such as paediatricians, psychiatrists, teachers, and other professionals involved in your child’s care.
What do we work with? We offer therapeutic interventions to address a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma. We use a range of evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), third wave CBT such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), as well as trauma focussed models such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). We aim to help you and your child identify the difficulties and achieve your personal goals.
-
Depression
We can provide therapeutic support for better regulation of moods and emotions for children and adolescents to cope better with major life changes such as loss of a loved one, parents’ divorce as well as school or relationship difficulties.
-
Anxiety
We can work with children, adolescents and their families to cope with generalised anxiety disorders, social or specific phobias, panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and selective mutism.
-
Stress
We can help with stress management to enable children and adolescents to better cope with academic, social and other life demands.
-
Abuse & Trauma
We can support children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events or have post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Through evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), they can be enabled to better process trauma, manage symptoms and cope with life.
-
Pain & Chronic illnesses
We can help with pain management, emotional challenges associated with chronic illnesses.
What’s the outcome? We will first identify and understand your child’s difficulties, then work together towards their personal goals. This can be learning how to regulate their emotions better, being better able to cope with anxiety, or walking through traumatic events. With timely support, we hope your child can learn to cope with the stressors and difficulties in life, and develop resilience for the future.
