Cognitive Assessments
It is important to find a qualified psychologist who is well trained in using standardised assessment tools to understand your child’s strengths and needs.
Singapore Ability Scales (SAS)
a comprehensive cognitive test battery that is normed on Singaporean children.
published by the National Institute of Education (NIE) and the Ministry of Education (https://singaporeabilityscales.sg).
one of its kind as there is no other IQ test available that compares your child’s performance to other Singaporean children of the same age.
The SAS measures your child’s
verbal, non-verbal reasoning, spatial, memory and processing speed abilities for an in-depth understanding of your child’s thinking abilities.
scholastic skills such as word reading, spelling and number skills compared to other children in Singapore, rather than children from a different country where educational standards might differ.
Results from the SAS can be used to:
understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses in processing information.
diagnose learning or intellectual disabilities (together with other tests).
apply to special education schools.
The SAS is suitable for children and youths aged 5 to 17 years old and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
The SAS consists of brief tests, each usually lasting no more than 10 minutes.
Your child will need to answer questions verbally, look at pictures and puzzles, remember what was said or shown, or do something as quickly as he or she can.
Our psychologists are certified users of the SAS (awarded by NIE).
We also have more than 15 years of administering, supervising and training others to use the Differential Ability Scales and/or the British Ability Scales, which are overseas normed versions of the SAS.
“This makes us the leading experts ensuring the valid administration and interpretation of test results from the SAS”
